If you want to have a smile that is healthy and looks great, Miami area cosmetic dentist Dr. Gloria Ospina can help you achieve this goal. With that said, however, she can’t do all of the work. In fact, while Miami porcelain veneers and tooth whitening can help enhance a smile, there are plenty of things that you can do on your own to improve your dental health and enhance the appearance of your smile.

Right now, the entire team here would like to share a few tips with you for great dental health and enhanced appearance of your smile. These are just some basic things that you can do at home.

First and foremost, be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Brushing your teeth twice a day is a great way for you to remove food particles and plaque from your teeth, which can lead to tartar, tooth decay, and gum disease. We encourage you to brush your teeth after every meal, actually, as this will help reduce plaque build-up overall.

When it comes to the tools for brushing your teeth, we have some advice there as well. Be sure to use a toothbrush that has soft bristles. Bristles that are too hard on a toothbrush can lead to damage on the gums or bleeding gums. It’s also important that you use a toothpaste that is not too abrasive. This will ensure that you’re cleaning your teeth effectively but not doing damage to the enamel of the tooth.

Second, floss regularly. Flossing is the only way to really access the spaces between your teeth, where food particles cannot be accessed by a toothbrush. Flossing is a sure way to improve the health and appearance of your teeth and your gums.

Third, let’s talk about your breath. Even if you’re brushing regularly and flossing as you should, you may have occasional bouts with bad breath. Be sure to drink a few glasses of water everyday. This will keep you hydrated, your mouth moist, and remove any excess food particles in your mouth. It’s also important that you consider chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free mints in order to maintain fresh breath.

There are many other ways that you can keep your smile looking great and feeling healthy, and we’ll be happy to discuss them in greater detail at our office. To schedule a visit to our office, contact our cosmetic dentistry office in Coral Gables today.
